When
needles, wool yarn, sketches, and body measurements are ready, one
can begin to knit his or her cabled V-neck sweater. The technique of
cabling or cable knitting is fun to learn and looks spectacular on
clothes, especially sweaters and sweater-dresses. Cabling itself means
crossing one group of loops over another over and over in the design
to create a kind of a braid.
A cable is created by holding several loops on the cable needle while knitting
remaining loops on the left-hand needle. The first row is knitted in this
manner. Because the number of loops on the first row is omitted, that same
number of loops needs to be created at the end of the first row to keep
a balance in the design. On the second row the loops from the cable needle are knit. This pattern should be repeated throughout the design for consistency
purposes.
The separate pieces should be knit for the front, back, and arms of the
cabled V-neck sweater. Additional knitting techniques or wool of a different
color can be incorporated in the sweater for the contrast.
In conclusion, knitting a cabled V-neck sweater is a fun project that can
not only teach one a cable knitting technique, but also provide with a
warm wool sweater for the winter.
